What is SoonerCare?
SoonerCare is a Medicaid Health Insurance program offered through the Oklahoma Health Care Authority (OHCA) and the federal government. For families or individuals who qualify, SoonerCare offers medical, dental and vision insurance. Qualification is based on need, amount of income versus number of dependents, disability and other factors.

To apply for SoonerCare, complete an application at the Oklahoma Department of Human Services. For more information go to www.okdhs.org or call 1-800-734-7516.

What dental work does SoonerCare cover?

Children
For those 20 and under, SoonerCare covers most dental procedures not considered cosmetic, including:

•	Exams	•	Necessary X-rays

•	Cleanings	•	Crowns

•	Fillings	•	Head Start exams

•	Extractions	•	Other procedures (partials, fluoride, etc.)

•	Root canals

Children must be 16 or older to receive SoonerCare reimbursement on crowns. Children ages 11-16 may receive orthodontics under SoonerCare if they meet certain requirements.

	An estimated 51 million school hours are lost per year because of dental-related illnesses.

	Problems from poor oral health include pain, problems chewing or talking, feeling self-conscious or embarrassed, or becoming more irritable.

Adults
For those over 20, SoonerCare coverage includes:

•	Limited exams	•	Extractions

•	Necessary X-rays	•	Surgical procedures to reshape the jaw to correctly fit dentures

Pregnant Women
Pregnant women under 21 qualify to receive the same coverage as children under 20. For pregnant women over 21, coverage may include:

•	Comprehensive exams	•	Fillings

•	Necessary X-rays	•	Deep gum cleaning

•	Cleanings
